Malaria

Posted by Paul Wise on Sunday, January 29, 2012, In : recording sessions with Studio 33 Recording
Spent all week with Malaria. Great guys. We are doing 8 tracks with them and are smack dab in the middle of mixing the project. Our week ended on a scary note as Ben(killer bass player) got into a wreck with his car. Hes doing well though no injuries. They describe themselves as "Metal Rock" with influences from all over the musical spectrum. Lots of double kick from Ian on drums and loud guitars from Matt. Lastly future US Marine Steve(vocals) finished his tracking thursday afternoon. Its be...

Sam Tolson w/ Blake Stahlhut

Posted by Paul Wise on Sunday, January 29, 2012, In : recording sessions with Studio 33 Recording
Had a great session with Sam Tolson and Blake Stahlhut a week ago. They put together a cover of Paramores "The Only Exception" in a few hours. It turned out nicely if I must say. Blake had a very cheap, old, yet great sounding guitar for the track. 414s did the trick for the guitar and Sam did a beautiful sounding vocal into the TLM 103 for the finishing touches. Sam wants to come back and do a few more tracks in the near future. Hope to work with both of them again.

Need to get caught up dont we. I am now an instructor at Toledo School for the Arts. They decided to bring me on as a recording instructor there. Loved my first semester there. Had a good group of students to work with and we had some great sessions in the TSA studio. The students that I taught also helped me tonight! We just got done doing another concert recording for the TIYO. The pieces they are playing are longer and difficult this time around but they sounded good.

Well its been a while since Ive posted an update but thats a good thing. We have been doing alot. Last week we had 3 bands in one day for a recording for Big Brothers big Sisters of Toledo. I dropped off the mixes today Down Town at 104.7 WIOT so they could auction the project off for the benefit of the organization. Got a full tour of the place. Very Cool! Lots of old audio equipment that I could drool over. The bands that we recorded for the project were Greyline, Test to the Theory ...

We have been working on a song "Doesnt Matter" with Krystal for a couple weeks. The gospel R&B sound is something that I love working with. Very good vocals in this one. Some of the best songs come out of difficult circumstances.

Toledo Symphony Orchestra

Posted by Paul Wise on Sunday, June 13, 2010, In : recording sessions with Studio 33 Recording
Did the concert recording for the Toledo Symphony tonight. A lot of hard work but we captured very good sounding tracks. This was their last weekend for the season so they were really playing well. Went off without a hitch. They played along side Westgate Chapels rhythm section and choir. huge sound directed by Don Benoit and TSO conductor Chelsea Tipton II {his last weekend as resident conductor of  the TSO}.  It was easy to get lost in the music that was coming off that stage. Thats a good ...

Finished the rough mixes with Matt the other night. They are coming out great. Very spacious and tight. This is going to be a record Toledo hasnt seen the likes of ever! And I really mean that Matt has 4 great songs that are well arranged and our tracking was given enough time that we could get the parts right. Look out for this one.

Posted by Paul Wise on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, In : recording sessions with Studio 33 Recording
Matt Klien will be at the Studio all week (monday through Saturday) as "A Minor Solution". We will be working on a project that has many different musical influences. Very rhythmic and very good arrangements will be coming out of this weeks sessions. Dance w/ rock instruments is what comes to mind when I listened to the rough mixes Matt made at home. Very excited to be working on this project with Matt. I have know him for awhile now and I know this week will be fun.

That's the name of the 7 song Album that Alexx Sumner is going to release very soon. Paul Wise and Alexx Recorded, Mixed and Mastered it last weekend in 2 days time. It came out very hard hitting and fluid at the same time. The sound is like a techno, pop, rap, r/b mixture. Find Alexx on Myspace to hear some of the tracks.

Russell Montgomery

Posted by Paul Wise on Monday, March 15, 2010, In : recording sessions with Studio 33 Recording

Recorded Russell Montgomery yesterday. Great tone in his voice and a less than 24hour old Guitar from Durdels did the trick thanks to Fred. Added some production rhythm work after he left that would make you dance!  The 414s sounded exquisite.

Did a session with Marty Jones AKA Bleed Toledo. He does pop with a little techno mixed in ala Rediscover. Also had our second session with Sara Stotz at Westgate. This was an audio/video shoot. I sent my audio to the video guy and we ended up with a 2 song production of sorts. Her next session is in early march.

Broadway hopeful Sara Stotz
Recorded Sara Stotz today at Westgate Chapel. Very talented young soprano. She is trying to get into a couple programs at Brevard and or Baldwin Wallace. She did two Broadway style pieces and sung well. Her accompaniment on the piano was a graduate student from the University of Toledo. She also did a dramatic reading. The session was a hit. The piano we used is a Baldwin Concert Grand that's at Westgate. It sounds amazing every time I get a chance to record it. Sar...
